Michigan Governor, Gretchen Whitmer, has signed a series of bills which has permitted online gambling and sports betting to take part in the Wolverine State. Michigan is now the 20th state to legalize sports betting. Gretchen Whitmer had this to say, "My top priority in signing this legislation was protecting and investing in the School Aid Fund, because our students deserve leaders who put their education first. Thanks in part to the hard work and leadership of Senator Hertel and Representative Warren, these bills will put more dollars in Michigan classrooms and increase funding for firefighters battling cancer. This is a real bipartisan win for our state." Taxes on sports betting will be paid at a rate of 8.4% by operators. In addition, online casino taxes will be paid at a rate of between 20-28% depending on the type of casino offering the service.
